Online Book Club and Livestreamed Author Events

Each semester we choose a new book and meet virtually to discuss the written word. In addition to engaging students in synchronous and asynchronous discussion options, we host a livestreamed author talk and Q&A event. Virtual moderators collect questions from students through chat and relay them to the author in real-time. See some of my archived events here.

Faculty panel on VR in Education

I often put together panels of faculty and industry experts to engage with our students. In this particular event I brought together a group of educators who have been experimenting with virtual reality in the classroom, to discuss the future of immersive and experiential learning.

Online Art & Creativity Festival

Over the years this event has morphed from a “Virtual Coffee House” to a much more diverse celebration of art and creativity, inviting submissions across any and all digital or digitized content formats, and connecting students with a community of peers with common interests.
See the online exhibit here.

Virtual field trips

Back in 2016 I partnered with an emerging ed tech company called Georama to offer livestreamed field trips to our students. Using wearable video technology, guides provided livestreamed tours of famous tourist destinations, taking questions from students and faculty via social media in real-time.

Read Around the Planet

In my past role working for the Dutchess BOCES School Library System, I led an initiative called Read Around the Planet. Each year I would connect K-12 classroom teachers with other teachers from around world. I worked with each pair of teachers as they collaborated to create a unique distance learning experience around a common theme.
